PRC Welcomes the Newly Designated Chairperson and Member of the PRB of Optometry
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Professional Regulation Committee (PRC / Commission) welcomes the newly designated Chairperson and Member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Optometry (PRB-OPT).
Hon. Christine Arevalo Samson-Rodriguez and Hon. Irene Christine Caling Peliño formally took their oath of office as Chairperson and Member of the PRB-OPT last December 03, 2024 at the PRC Morayta with PRC Chairperson Charito Zamora administering the oath. Commissioner Erwin M. Enad and Assistant Commissioner L. Louis P. Valera witnessed the oathtaking activity.
Before her assumption as the Chairperson of the Board, Hon. Samson-Rodriguez has been the College Dean (College of Optometry) from 2011 to 2022 at the Manila Central University. She, likewise, served as a Clinical Training Coordinator/Lecturer in the same school from 1991 to 2011. Additionally, Hon. Samson-Rodriguez was an active member/volunteer/consultant of the following organizations: Asia Optometric Congress Low Vision Section, Resources for the Blind, Inc., Perkins International, CHED Technical Committee on Optometry Education, International Association of Contact Lens, and Philippine Association Colleges and Universities – Commission on Accreditation. Adding to her laurels, she has been an Accreditor of the Doctor of Optometry Program at the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities – Commission Accreditation.
Hon. Peliño on the other hand joined the PRB-OPT in the year 2018 and has been serving the Board for more than five (5) fruitful years. From 2023-2024, she was also designated as the Chairperson of the PRB-OPT.
Hon. Samson-Rodriguez and Hon. Peliño have been active in the practice of Optometry. Their experience, knowledge, and expertise in Optometry will surely contribute to the better regulation of the profession.
